GSL Education are looking for a Special Educational Needs and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to work within secondary education in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

Job Summary: The SEMH TA will support secondary-aged students who face barriers to learning related to social, emotional, and mental health issues. The role includes assisting in the creation of a stable, supportive environment that aids students' educational and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support and group support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in implementing behavior management strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers and SENCO to support students’ educational plans.
  • Encourage and assist students in their academic and personal development.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with SEMH or a strong desire to work within SEN settings.
  • Empathetic and patient approach to student interactions.
  • Strong behavioral management skills with a focus on positive reinforcement.
  • Resilience and dedication to helping students overcome challenges.

Please note: This role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful candidates must satisfy all background checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
