If so, you’ll be interested in the opportunity to join the team at Avenca as a Maritime Electronic Data Analyst applying and developing software systems and techniques for analysing data from marine data recorders.

Avenca are world leading suppliers of cutting-edge systems and services for the analysis of data from “black box” recorders (as fitted to ships over 3000 Gross Tonnes worldwide), and we are looking for a dynamic graduate to join our successful team as a Maritime Electronic Data Analyst. The role will mainly involve extracting and processing data so that it can be analysed using Avenca’s MADAS software (used by National Accident Investigation Authorities around the world) and AURA SaaS (which provides lawyers, insurers, consultants and shipping companies with web-based analysis of their data); and then liaising with the customer to ensure that the required form of analysis is performed.

There will also be opportunities to get involved with the research, specification, development and testing of the highly innovative analysis software and systems which Avenca develops which currently includes researching/developing machine learning techniques to diagnose fault in autonomous vessels. 

What You’ll Need

The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter, with -

• An eye for detail
• A degree - preferably in an engineering, technical, scientific, or software/computing-related subject.
• A high degree of computer literacy
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

An interest in, or experience of, any of the following would also be beneficial:

• Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence
• Signal processing related to vibration, acoustic or video signals (e.g. using Matlab)
• Software Design and Development (particularly in Java and/or C#)
• Marine Navigation, Electronics, or other Maritime/Naval experience
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) e.g. ArcGIS/QGIS.
• Forensic data analysis
