Job Purpose

As a Senior CAE Engineer you will work as part of our Engineering Services team. Responsible for sustaining technical excellence within the CAE department, with the ability to deliver all types of projects requiring CAE analysis. You will have successfully delivered small-medium projects on time, to a high quality and within budget, solving problems where necessary to ensure key KPIs are met.

You will work closely with the Chief Analyst Engineer to deliver projects and develop the department. You will understand the technical aspects of delivering a project as well as assisting with developing more junior engineers

As a person you will be approachable, have a keen eye for detail and be driven to develop the department and its technical output whilst ensuring business needs are met. Promotion of high standards and continuous improvement methods in addition to coaching/mentoring team members with the aim to promote development of both employees and the overall department capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce technical work, unsupervised, to a high-quality standard.
  • Strength, Stiffness and Durability assessment of transmission system components.
  • Finding routes forward in complex analysis situations.
  • Assisting project manager with technical aspects of project proposals for small-medium projects.
  • Creation of high-quality reports for internal and external presentation.
  • Communicate with clarity to key stakeholders at all levels of our business, customer.
  • Understand process of validating analysis and simulation models.
  • Working closely with Chief Analyst engineer to deliver department goals.
  • Assist with training and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Clear technical communication of complex analysis results/tools.
  • Keep up to date and compliant with all relevant legislation and Company policies and procedures, with particular attention to the requirements of ‘Information Security’ and ‘Quality’ practices

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or related subjects.
  • Five years’ experience in CAE analysis.
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of finite element methods.
  • The ability to perform hand calculations for sizing.
  • Advanced user of non-linear analysis methods using Altair or Ansys products.
  • Ability to troubleshoot models and processes.
  • Able to perform detailed optimisation on components to achieve set requirements.
  • An understanding of fatigue theory and able to calculate component life.
  • Able to develop analysis processes.
  • Able to work as part of a multifunctional team with multiple stakeholder communication.
  • Experience with mentoring junior engineers.
  • Using continuous improvement to update process and improve workflows.
  • Experience of customer facing work with excellent communication skills.
  • Able to clearly communicate technical data and findings to customers, experience working with international customers would be beneficial.

Desirable:

  • Broad range of industry experience, passenger car, heavy duty, off highway.
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of NVH and experience solving NVH problems.
  • Experience with explicit analysis methods.
  • Experience with multi-body dynamics analysis.
