The Council is continuing a major transformation of the borough by investing millions in Highways and Parking to reduce road danger, improve our highways and public realm, deliver high quality walking and cycling projects and manage the kerbside space.
We are committed to meeting the objectives set out in our Transport Strategy and a number of action plans including the Walking and Cycling Action Plan, Air Quality Action Plan, and the Road Danger Reduction Action Plan.  
To achieve our ambitions, we have in recent years restructured and created several exciting permanent and fixed term opportunities.  Within the Highways and Parking Service we have a number of vacancies that would sit within the Streetspace, Parking Policy and Projects and Traffic Engineering teams.
You’ll have the opportunity to take schemes through from inception to delivery on the street, working with various internal teams and external stakeholders.

What we’re looking for
The Streetspace team includes 2 permanent and 3 fixed term contract (FTC) vacancies that will work on a range of schemes to promote walking, cycling and bus priority and reduce congestion and improve road safety.
The Parking Policy and Projects team includes 4 permanent vacancies that will work on a range of projects and schemes including controlled parking zones, disabled parking provision and a number of measures to promote use to cycling such as cycle hangars and dock-less cycle parking and provision of electric vehicle charging points to help meet growing demand.
The Traffic Engineering team includes 4 permanent vacancies that will work on a range of schemes to reduce road danger reduction and highway works to support new developments.

About the role

The Streetspace Senior Engineer, will take the lead in developing, reviewing, designing, consulting, and delivering a range of schemes to promote walking, cycling and bus priority and reduce congestion and improve road safety.  The schemes will include School Streets, strategic cycle routes, traffic signal works, bus lanes and measures to reduce traffic congestion and improve road safety.

About you

You will have a working knowledge and understanding of highways, traffic and transport related legislation, statutory duties and practice, an understanding of the current planning, sustainability and economic agendas which are influencing highway and transport policy, schemes and implementation and a record of successful and consistent delivery of traffic and parking schemes.   You will also have a relevant professional qualification or suitable experience including at least 5 years relevant experience.
