Job Description: Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Location: Reigate, Surrey
Type: Full-time
About the Role: As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) at our Special Education School in Reigate, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs (SEN) to achieve their full potential. Working closely with teachers and other support staff, you will provide one-to-one and group support to students, assisting them with classroom activities and ensuring they have access to a safe and inclusive learning environment. This role involves working with students across different age groups and abilities, helping them to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and group support to students with SEN, both in and out of the classroom.
- Assist students with their learning activities, adapting materials and resources as necessary to meet individual needs.
- Support students with personal care tasks, if required, ensuring their dignity and privacy are respected at all times.
- Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging their participation and engagement in learning activities.
- Help to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment, promoting positive behavior and resolving any conflicts or issues that may arise.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and support students' progress towards their learning goals.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required, actively contributing to the ongoing development of the school's SEN provision.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers and parents/carers as necessary.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with students with SEN, either in a school setting or a similar environment.
- A compassionate and patient approach, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to respond to the changing needs of students and the school.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant qualifications or training in SEN support or education (e.g., CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent).
- First aid training and/or experience in providing personal care would be advantageous but is not essential.
