HancoxRead are recruiting a Senior Drainage Engineer on behalf of their client.  This is a hybrid role, and you will require a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

Purpose of Role:

Under the guidance of the Flood Risk Engineering & Strategy Officer, develop and manage drainage maintenance schemes. You will work closely with the Highways Operations Teams and external contractors to ensure that the Drainage Capital Programme is delivered on time and to budget.

Responsibilities:

  • To identify highway drainage maintenance needs and prioritise works including working with the Highways Asset Management Engineer to produce forward programmes of work.
  • Design highways drainage maintenance and minor drainage improvement schemes in line with established design parameters including drawings, specifications and contract documentation to ensure the delivery of high quality services on time and to budget
  • Prepare works orders for CCTV drainage and culvert surveys together with pipework and culvert lining schemes.
  • Provide innovative thinking to find solutions to engineering problems, making use of up to date systems on processes within relevant markets.
  • Responsibility to monitor overall cost control to support the Flood Risk Engineering & Strategy Officer, and the Flood Risk Manager
  • Monitor contractor performance and value obtained from external contracts
  • To work with the Operations Team & Development Team and external contractors to ensure the projects are completed on time and on budget and meet required specifications.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Detailed knowledge of highway drainage maintenance engineering and the management and maintenance of the highway drainage network
  • Detailed knowledge of the design, detailing, construction, preparation and letting of contracts and construction supervision of highways maintenance schemes.
  • High level of project management skills, people management and interpersonal skills
  • Good level of ICT skills including the use of Microsoft Project, Confirm, Excel, basic CAD and GIS/MapInfo
