Position Overview: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with a variety of SEN within a school setting. You will work closely with classroom teachers and special education professionals to create an inclusive and nurturing environment for students with diverse learning needs.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Passion for Education: A genuine desire to support students with SEN and help them achieve their best.
  • Relevant Qualifications: Level 2/3 SEN qualification or experience in working with students with SEN is a plus.
  • Strong Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Patience and Empathy: The ability to be patient, understanding, and empathetic towards the needs of students with SEN.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changing situations and the needs of individual students.
  • Team Player: The capacity to work collaboratively with a team of educators and support staff.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support in the Classroom: Assist classroom teachers in delivering lessons and providing additional support to students with SEN.
  • Individualised Assistance: Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to provide tailored support and help them access the curriculum.
  • Behaviour Management: Assist in managing and maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Personal Care: Provide care and assistance for students with physical or medical needs.
  • Progress Monitoring: Help assess and track the progress of students, and report findings to the SEN coordinator or teacher.
  • Communication: Maintain open communication with parents and caregivers to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
  • Resource Preparation: Assist in the preparation of learning materials and resources that cater to the specific needs of students.
  • Sensory Support: Provide sensory support for students with sensory impairments.
  • Emotional Support: Offer emotional support and a safe space for students with SEN to express themselves.
  • Adaptation: Be adaptable and flexible to the ever-changing needs of students with SEN.
