Job Title: British Sign Language Support Assistant

Salary/Rate: £500 - £600 per week

Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm

Location: Newham

Milk Education are in partnership with a Special School in Newham for young people 4-19 years old with a diagnosis of Autism with significant learning disabilities who are seeking a Support Assistant with a Level 2 or above in BSL. The role includes supporting staff and pupils develop the key skills of communication, independence, personal and social skills, emotional regulation, physical development and life skills whilst placing the students at the centre, ensuring that the curriculum’s content and learning experiences are personlised to meet individual needs.

The successful candidate will have:

* Experience working and supporting in an educational setting
* British Sign Language at Level 2 or above
* Experience assisting class teachers plan and deliver interventions and booster groups
* Excellent English skills (Written and Verbal)
* A positive and supportive influence on the teacher and children you support
* The ability to recognise the child’s needs and adapt the learning accordingly to ensure children thrive.
* Committed to the learning and development of children within your care.

Responsibilities will include:

* Work with individuals or small groups of students, who are deaf or have a hearing impairment, within the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff.
* Assisting with the supervision of students out of lesson times at various times of the school day, including before and after school, according to contractual hours.
* Work with students with special educational needs and/or students whom English is not their first language
* Provide regular feedback to class teachers on student achievement, progress and problems
* Support learning by arranging/providing resources for lessons/activities under the direction of the line manager.
* The post holder is required to be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relationg to child protection, equal opportunities, health & safety, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
