About the Role:

We are currently recruiting for an Occupational Health Nurse. This job role is suited for a Registered Nurse who has a keen interest in Occupational Health, or is seeking to learn new skills, to join an established OH team.

You will have a positive attitude towards the health and wellbeing of those attending or contacting Occupational Health for support and advice.

You need to be confident working both autonomously and as part of the wider team and will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills, liaising with staff, managers, other departments and other stakeholders on the biomedical campus.

Working within a team of Occupational Health professionals providing a high-quality need based Occupational Health service to all clients NHS and non-NHS.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Assessment of pre-employment health questionnaires and make a decision on whether the applicant can be given medical clearance to work.
  • Undertake pre-employment health assessments as required in order to provide the recruiting manager with written advice and guidance on fitness to work or recommend specific modifications to the applicant’s working conditions, working hours, or environment. 
  • Provide a listening ear for staff who refer themselves to the department, offering advice and signposting to internal or external support agencies as appropriate.
  • Advise and offer appropriate vaccinations and immunity tests for staff working in clinical areas and actively participate in the flu vaccination campaign.
  • Manage reported body fluid exposures and provide advice and follow-up.
  • Work closely with the Infection Prevention & Control Team with the aim of minimising the spread of infections or viruses between staff and patients, implement contact tracing and follow-up as necessary.
  • Organise and deliver health surveillance programmes as and when indicated.
  • Undertake workplace assessments and provide advice.
  • Ensure that individual’s privacy and dignity are respected at all times.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Portfolio of a wide range of CPD activities.
  • Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Relevant accredited courses.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experienced in health promotion activities.
  • Experience of working in the NHS.
  • Venepuncture/vaccination skills.
  • Occupational Health/Public Health experience.
