A SEND School in Meriden is looking for a dedicated SEND Teacher to join their team full-time, starting from May 2024, on an ongoing basis.

This calm and therapeutic SEND School is in Meriden and caters for students aged 11 - 19, with additional needs including autism, global developmental delay and other learning disabilities. They pride themselves in creating a welcoming, motivating, and nurturing atmosphere where every pupil is encouraged and inspired to achieve their potential and develop a love of learning. The school works to instil a ‘can do’ attitude by encouraging others to share knowledge skills and expertise. They teach their children to grow as individuals and to analyse, reflect and evaluate and welcome difference and diversity.

You will be responsible for teaching a class of children with additional needs including challenging behaviour, meaning that you must be able to adjust your teaching methods and the existing curriculum to meet the needs of each individual child. It is important that you help and inspire the children to help them reach their true academic potential! Planning is also involved in this role.

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR A PERMANENT POSITION AT THE SCHOOL

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Experience in working with special needs (ASC, MLD, SEMH)
  • Minimum 6 months’ experience working with children and young people.
  • QTS is essential.
  • Excellent knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • Experience of using communication aids such as British Sign Language, Makaton or PECS is advantageous but not essential.
  • Enhanced DBS registered or willing to acquire a new certificate.
  • Can effectively manage behaviour using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Will be kind, caring and patient when dealing with children who require specialist support.
