The ideal candidate would have a combination of Rail, Electrical and NEC contract experience. As a quantity surveyor you would be expected to be able to measure from drawings, and on site. Be contractually competent and well versed in NEC contacts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently carry out both periodical duties and one-off tasks within specified deadlines, as directed by the senior Commercial team.
  • Prepare and agree variation accounts for main contracts and sub-contracts.
  • Monitor costs against targets and track contract progress against accepted programmes and work plans, collaborating with other team disciplines.
  • Provide input into change control procedures for extensions of time (EOT), delays, and performance adjustments.
  • Prepare and agree interim valuations, final valuations, final accounts, and sub-contract final accounts.
  • Prepare and issue certification and payment of subcontractors.
  • Offer contractual advice to management to ensure compliance with contract and legal administration obligations, including timely issuance of relevant notices.
  • Negotiate and progress the resolution of disputes.
  • Identify potential commercial risks and evaluate options for their control and management.

- Assist in the preparation and management of cost estimates, budgets and cash flows
- Assist with procurement
- Conduct regular site visits monitoring cost control
- Collaborate closely with the project team
- Support further commercial team
- Manage commercial team below you (assistant QS and assistant contract manager)
- Identify project risks and develop and implement mitigation strategies to minimise the commercial effect of said risk.
- Demonstratable use and understanding of standard forms of contract
- Detailed knowledge of NEC contracts

About the Candidate:

  • Qualified with a degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
  • Enrolled in, or seeking membership of, a relevant professional institution (CICES, RICS, or similar).
  • Proven experience at Quantity Surveyor level, demonstrating the ability to deliver positive commercial outcomes for associated projects.
  • Strong mentoring skills, with the ability to listen, learn, and integrate new concepts while guiding junior team members.
