Belmont Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join an NHS Trust based in Birkenhead on an initial 3-month temporary contract. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
The Role:
This role provides financial information and forecasts, guidance and advice to senior managers and budget holders and will require being closely involved with the existing and planned financial activities in the Trust.
To provide an effective, high quality Financial Management service to managers and clinicians
Provide monthly financial management reports, provide support and advice to managers, undertake financial analyses and investigate queries.
To take responsibility for a range of service budgets including their maintenance and monitoring arrangements
To ensure coding of non-pay expenditure is correct and communicate any actions required for other users
To liaise with Procurement and Budget Holders regarding coding of goods and services on purchase orders
To ensure invoices are received and raised in a timely manner and coded correctly
To ensure that pay costs are charged correctly, working with HR and Budget Holders to rectify any issues at source
To prepare and upload all accrual, prepayment, accrued income and deferred income journals required to report an accurate financial position
To plan the delivery of pooled monthly tasks on a rotational basis in line with the prescribed monthly timetable
To check output for accuracy, reasonableness and clarity before publication
To investigate and analyse the cause and effect of variances against plan, agreeing corrective action plans with Budget Holders. To escalate and seek guidance as necessary
To plan and prepare the monthly briefing note and financial position statement for the services supported
To provide financial support and advice to Budget Holders, handling contentious matters and providing solutions to issues that arise
To establish good working relationships with Budget Holders, holding monthly or period meetings as required providing advice and challenge to budget managers which support the achievement of value for money and budgetary targets.
To confidently present and translate complicated financial information to a varied audience
To confidently present and translate non-financial information held within the Trust’s Integrated Gateway (TIG) to Budget Holders
To assist with Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
Requirements:
- Previous experience of working in a similar role at a NHS Trust, Hospital, or Local Authority
- Relevant Accounting Qualification
