We are looking for a Housing Needs Reviews Officers for a temp to perm position in North London area to start in immediately.

Hours: 36h, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm (hybrid)

Pay rate: £19/h to £20.96/h

Successful candidate will be working with colleagues in the housing needs reviews team to ensure overall team targets are achieved.

The main purpose of the role:

  • To work closely with Chief Executive
  • To assist the housing needs group to improve its services by investigating and responding to enquiries from Members/ MP’s and formal complaints
  • To carry out statuary reviews of decisions under the Housing Act 1996
  • To have direct communication with customers and their elected or other representatives, including lawyers and advocates. Also, close liaison with officers and managers within the housing needs group, to ensure and promote good understanding of the group’s work and services.
  • To triage and assign issues raised by residents to relevant departments, to follow up and feed back to residents and keep the Chief Executive up to date on both individual cases and the overall caseload.
  • To manage a portfolio of casework, including logging cases on the Members’ Enquiries system.
  • To liaise with all departments, council officers and other agencies to triage problems and provide responses to residents.
  • To ensure that cases are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner, always adhering to GDPR principles.
  • To monitor and maintain the records for all Chief Executive casework.
  • To participate in activities which are appropriate to the role and to meet statutory and departmental requirements

Experience / Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Housing Act 1996
  • The ability to come to fair, reasoned and evidence-based judgements in dealing with complaints and s202 reviews and to communicate these in writing in a clear and logical manner
  • Experience in providing or ensuring high standards of customer service and of demonstrating high standards of customer service of casework and in coming to careful and fair conclusion to a case
  • Ability to adapt to various IT systems
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Understanding the political context in which the council operates
  • Knowledge of local government context including council policy and process
  • Ability to respond positively in urgent situations, prioritising workload and working to meet tight deadlines and resolves issues
  • Experience of liaising with members of the public, residents, and different groups / agencies in the wider community
  • Previous experience of handling casework, including immigration, housing, and the benefit system. Identify, establish and maintain appropriate liaison and contacts with other departments, council staff and relevant external agencies
