Housing Standards Manager - Local Authority

Location: CH41 8DA
Start date: ASAP
Contract duration: 3+ months
Working hours: Mon - Fri, 09:00 - 17:15, 36 hours p/w
Pay rate: £28 p/h PAYE

Job purpose:

To manage the Council's Housing Standards services including Clearance, Home Improvements, Empty Properties, Selective Licensing, HMOs, Enforcement and Healthy Homes services; to ensure that private sector housing programmes are successfully implemented, monitored and delivered on time and within the capital programme budget available and that housing standards across the borough continue to improve.

Skills and experience:

  • Appropriate housing, environmental health, or building qualification.
  • Thorough understanding of housing related legislation and local and national regeneration, enforcement and strategic issues involving private sector housing stock.
  • Extensive knowledge of current and historic building practices, retrofit and the relationship of housing markets to stock condition.
  • Detailed understanding of emerging government policies and legislation regarding housing standards and renewal and the constraints of available resources.
  • Be a skilled communicator, both orally to be able to deal with and negotiate with vulnerable members of the public, councillors/MP's, senior Officers, colleagues relevant professionals and external agencies and be able to undertake written communications including reports, contracts, presentations and policy documents.
