As a Site Engineer for the HS2 project based in Birmingham, you will be at the forefront of one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the UK. You will play a crucial role in overseeing engineering activities within your designated section, ensuring adherence to project specifications, quality standards, and safety protocols. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to make a substantial impact on the future of transportation in the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage and supervise engineering activities within your assigned section of the HS2 project, including track, structures, or other relevant areas.
  2. Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of engineering works in accordance with project plans and schedules.
  3. Conduct regular inspections and quality checks to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and relevant standards.
  4. Provide technical expertise and support to resolve engineering issues and challenges promptly, ensuring efficient problem-solving and decision-making.
  5. Implement and enforce stringent health, safety, and environmental practices on-site, promoting a culture of safety awareness and compliance among all team members.
  6. Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including daily reports, progress records, and as-built drawings, to track project milestones and ensure transparency in project activities.
  7. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimise construction methodologies, improve efficiency, and mitigate risks.
  8. Support the development of junior engineering staff through mentorship, training, and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience (5 years) working as a Section Engineer or similar role on large-scale infrastructure projects, preferably within the rail or transportation sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and materials.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes of practice, and regulations, particularly within the rail sector.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools.
  • Valid CSCS card and relevant professional certifications (e.g., CEng, CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
