The London Assembly scrutinises the Mayor's activities by questioning the Mayor about their decisions. The Assembly also investigates issues of importance to London. There are 25 Assembly Members, elected every four years at the same time as the Mayor. The Secretariat works for the Assembly to support its activities. The Communications Team support service to promote the work of the Assembly through press office, social media, publicity and events.
About the role
If you have a proven track record of success in delivering stakeholder engagement, as well as functions and events, in a high-profile and/or political organisation, then the London Assembly Communications Team has a role just for you!
The Stakeholder & Events Officer is an integral part of the London Assembly Communications team. Working with colleagues and elected politicians, you will raise awareness and understanding of the work of the Assembly, helping to ensure the Assembly’s scrutiny activity is informed by voices across London.
You will need to be a highly motivated communicator with a strong negotiating skills, able to identify opportunities for the Assembly to showcase its work and engage with a broad range of communities. You will be comfortable operating in a high paced and/ or political environment, with experience of liasing with a wide range of stakeholders.
What your day will look like
·Develop a programme of engagement for the Assembly Chair and leading Assembly Members, providing impact assessment of engagement activity for internal stakeholders and annual evaluation of activity.
·Organise site visits and stakeholder events in support of Assembly Committee scrutiny activity, draft speeches, and update relevant developments that might impact on the work of the Assembly.
·Support the Assembly Chair in undertaking his/her specific public facing responsibilities, including attendance at events, the hosting of visits and the organisation of the annual Chair’s Event.
·Present Assembly work at approved events, liaise with Mayor’s public affairs team, draft speeches, update relevant developments that might impact on the work of the Assembly.
·Prepare high-quality briefing materials in order to promote and explain the work of the London Assembly.
·Working with the Assembly’s public engagement lead to establish clear policies and procedures in respect of public engagement, and to develop a new public engagement strategy.

Skills, knowledge and experience
To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:
·Proven track record of success in delivering stakeholder and events functions in a high-profile and/or political organisation.
·Evidence of detailed knowledge of stakeholder liaison and London government.
·Shows good knowledge of the various ways of communicating with different stakeholders and the public, e.g. WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok etc.
·Displays knowledge of polices and legislation around events planning, including health and safety aspects like crowd control, GDPR, etc.
