Senior Housing Disrepair Lawyer

Job Summary:

·         The postholder will carry a varied caseload and will undertake all aspects of legal work relating to housing disrepair cases at all stages of Pre-Litigation/Litigation.

·         The post holder will ensure compliance with the Housing Disrepair Pre-Action Protocol, provide advice on the management of risk on complex and contentious legal issues, represent the Council in court and conduct advocacy where appropriate.

Key Duties (Sample):

·         To support, supervise and mentor colleagues where required by Principal Lawyer or Assistant Principal                                                                                                                                          

·         To deputise for Assistant Principal or Principal Lawyer, including advising members in public and private meetings, and reviewing and clearing officer reports and briefing notes to the Senior Leadership Team, the Executive, Committees/Sub-Committees and Council                                                                                                                

·         To contribute to the management and strategy of the Legal Services Team                                                                                                         

·         To contribute to ensuring that colleagues within the Legal Services team, members and officers in other areas of the Council are trained in relevant developments in law and policy and receive guidance on their implementation in a timely manner, including delivering training.                                                                                                      

·         To advise members in public and private meetings including committees and sub-committees.                                                                                                                

·         To conduct own advocacy and on behalf of the team, where relevant, including interim   hearings                                                                                                                     

·         As one of the members of the Legal Services Team to provide cover for the MM2 Lawyers and other team members during his/her/their absence as appropriate.       

·         Occasional attendance at evening meetings may be required.                                  

·         Any other duties reasonably requested by management                                            

·         Carry out all accountabilities in compliance with the Council’s Policies and     Procedures                                                                                                                  

·         the adjudicator on contested cases, if require by the Senior Parking Supervisor
