Higher Apprenticeship Development Coach

Home Based Working (Travel to Solihull site 1x per month)

Ongoing 0 Hour Contract for the bench team (This is an Ad-Hoc bank role to support with annual leave cover, sickness cover and business ramp up)

Job Purpose

The primary responsibilities will be to guide and support learners through every stage of their apprenticeship. In particular, the role holder will coach apprentices in the skills and behaviours required for school-based apprenticeships up to level 6, via a blended learning approach which includes face to face and online engagement with apprentices. The coach will liaise closely with the tutors delivering the knowledge elements of the apprenticeships and the Functional Skills Tutor to ensure a consistent approach, and that all aspects of the apprenticeship are being addressed.

The Coach will report to the Apprenticeships Manager and will be expected to work closely with the apprenticeship tutors, skills administrators, customer impact, data and quality teams to ensure adherence to the regulatory requirements of Ofsted, funding bodies and awarding bodies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Actively support, coach and motivate learners across the entire learner journey, to help them with the timely completion of their learning goals and achievement of their apprenticeship standard.
  • Complete Progress Reviews with the learners and employers, ensuring compliance with relevant funding rules
  • Review work produced by learners to ensure it meets the relevant apprenticeship standard.
  • Ensure that learner records on the learner management system and portfolio are up to date and all relevant documents are stored securely on these systems.
  • Support learners to ensure evidence of learning is captured monthly and uploaded to the portfolio to ensure the learner maintains progression in line with time on programme.
  • Ensure learners are fully prepared for End Point Assessment of their apprenticeship standard.
  • Review performance of learners against targets and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Contribute to the effective implementation of the Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) and participate in the self-assessment process.
  • Undertake professional development and training to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the apprenticeships delivered within and to maintain relevant professional knowledge.
  • Carry out all duties with due regard to Health and Safety Regulations.
  • To positively promote equality of opportunity for staff and apprentices.

Skills, experience, and technical knowhow

  • Have relevant and recent experience of working in leadership and management in an educational organisational setting and a qualification
  • Level 3 Coaching qualification (preferable) and or willingness to complete.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of coaching techniques to motivate learners who may be disengaged.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills to ensure visits and reviews are conducted within required timescales.
  • Commitment to personal development and learning
  • Manage own workload, anticipate, and escalate issues as they arise and thrive under pressure.
  • Strive to succeed and maintain a pro-active attitude.
  • Demonstrates effective team skills and qualities through working with colleagues to continually improve and enhance working processes and procedures for the achievement of contract KPIs and delivery of the contract.
  • Confident and professional with the ability to inspire and motivate people.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, demonstrating patience and empathy.
  • Active listening and ability to assess, understand and tailor information to individual's needs.
  • Expertise in the use of a PC with experience of using office automation tools such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
