Role Overview:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant focusing on supporting students with challenging behaviors, you will play a pivotal role in creating a nurturing and supportive environment for our students. Your duties will include:

  1. 1-1 Support: Offering dedicated one-on-one support to a child with Autism who is nonverbal and higher on the spectrum. Your effective and compassionate communication skills, including proficiency in alternative communication methods such as the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), will be crucial in facilitating the student's growth and development.

  2. Collaborative Planning: Working closely with our experienced classroom educators to devise and implement individualized support plans tailored to the specific needs of Key Stage 2 students with special educational needs. Your expertise in addressing challenging behaviors will be instrumental in ensuring each student receives the tailored support required for success.

  3. Inclusive Learning Environment: Cultivating an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere that prioritizes the social and emotional well-being of every student. Your kindness, patience, and empathy will play a pivotal role in fostering a sense of belonging and confidence among our students, enabling them to fully engage in their educational journey.

  4. Stimulating Activities: Engaging students in dynamic and stimulating classroom activities designed to enrich their learning experiences. Your creativity and enthusiasm will serve as inspiration, encouraging active participation and nurturing a genuine passion for learning.

  5. Partnership Building: Establishing strong partnerships with parents, guardians, and fellow professionals to ensure a holistic and collaborative approach to each student's development. Your exceptional communication and interpersonal skills will facilitate effective collaboration and support student progress both within the school environment and at home.

Ideal Candidate Qualities:

We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • Experience and Expertise: Proven experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly in addressing challenging behaviours. Specialism or training in behaviour mentoring and managing challenging behaviours effectively is highly desirable.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate seamlessly with colleagues, parents, and stakeholders. Your ability to communicate effectively with students and support their needs will be paramount.

  • Compassion and Empathy: Kindness, compassion, patience, and empathy are essential qualities for this role. A genuine passion for supporting the individual needs of each student and making a positive impact on their lives is key.
